Trends

Water quality in Kentucky, over the years of the Clean Water Act, has improved steadily.

1972: 71 percent of waterways in Kentucky that were assessed because information was available did not support their designated uses.

2000: 44.2 percent of assessed waterways did not support designated uses, as reported in the 2002 Report to Congress on Water Quality (305[b] Report).
